Hospitality and Gaming

There are approximately 16,000 CAW members currently working in the broader hospitality and gaming sector. The bulk of our membership (approximately 7,000) is concentrated in hotels, inns and lodges. Ongoing organizing campaigns in the gaming sector have paid off, with over 5,000 CAW members now in casinos and racetracks (including Windsor Casino, OLG, Woodbine and Edgewater). The remaining members in this sector (about 4,000) work in a wide range of other hospitality and food service jobs (including restaurants, cafes and catering).

There is enormous organizing potential in this traditionally 'non-unionized' sector of our economy. Labour force statistics show that 1.1 million Canadians work in this sector. The vast majority of them (over 1 million) do not enjoy the protections of a union.
