GM OSHAWA TRUCK PLANT GOING DOWN THIS AFTERNOON

(TORONTO)—As of 9:30 am EST Mike Shields, CAW Local 222 president, says the latest report from Tom Hoar, plant chairperson, is that the production of trucks in Oshawa will cease some time late this afternoon. The day shift concludes at 2:30 pm with the afternoon shift commencing at 3:00 pm. At this point Shields says it looks as if there are only enough parts for maybe an hour’s production on the afternoon shift.

Workers on the day shift will be exiting the plant from Gates 8 and 22 (Park Road) and Gate 9 (Stevenson Road). The Oshawa truck plant is bounded by Phillip Murray, Stevenson and Park Roads. To get to the plant from the 401 take the Park Rd exit, turn left onto Bloor St., thru lights and immediate right onto Park Road South or from the Park Rd exit, turn right onto Bloor St. and left at Stevenson Road South (under the bridge).
