CAW Policy Paper #10: Reciprocal Agreement
December 19, 1989
CAW POLICY LETTER
LETTER NO. 10 December 19, 1989
Reciprocal Agreement
To: All Local Unions
Greetings:
As you are aware, the Canadian Automobile Workers has been continuing the practice of having a reciprocal agreement with a number of labour unions affiliated to the Canadian Labour Congress. This reciprocal agreement provides that we recognize the Honourable Withdrawal Transfer cards of certain national and international unions, whereby no initiation fee is necessary upon joining our union.
Listed below are all of the national and international unions with whom we have a reciprocal agreement providing for the mutual recognition of honourable withdrawal transfer cards exempting the member from having to pay initiation frees as provided for under our Constitution.
Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union*
International Union of Bakery, Confectionery & Tobacco Workers
Canadian Brotherhood of Railway, Transport and General Workers
IWA-Canada
Public Service Alliance of Canada
United Fishermen & Allied Workers' Union
United Garment Workers of America
United Rubber, Cork, Linoleum and Plastic Workers of America
United Steel Workers of America
* ACTWU local unions may enter into individual agreements.
As CAW has sent letters to all of the affiliates of the CLC, there were 84, a number of the response indicated that they will be considering our request for a reciprocal agreement in the future and advise us. We will update the above list periodically as we receive affirmative replies.
Fraternally yours,
(signed)
ROBERT NICKERSON
Secretary-Treasurer
