CAW POLICY LETTER

LETTER NO. 5 December 1, 1987

Donations to CAW/TCA Local Unions During Strikes/Lockouts

To: Local Union Presidents, Financial Secretaries, Recording Secretaries & National Staff Rerpresentatives

Greetings:

CAW-TCA Canada Local Unions have a tradition of providing financial assistance to Local Unions engaged in protracted strikes/lockouts.

The National Executive Board of CAW-TCA Canada believes this tradition promotes solidarity within the CAW-TCA Canada.

The National Executive Board of CAW-TCA Canada believes that reasonable workable procedures will enhance this tradition therefore.

The National President, upon request from a Local, will make an appeal, in writing, for donations from CAW-TCA Local Unions at the commencement of the seventh (7th) week of a strike or lockout of CAW-TCA members.

Local Unions receiving donations will use such funds in a manner for which they were intended and all donations will be reported on the Weekly Analysis Strike form.

At the conclusion of a strike/lockout all unused funds received as a result of donations shall be allocated by the Local Union in the following manner:

  • Funds shall be utilized to provide assistance to those members who continue to receive strike insurance benefits following the termination of a strike or lockout.
  • Funds shall be donated to other CAW-TCA Canada Locals and or units for whom an appeal has been made by the National President.
  • Funds shall be returned to the Local Union who made the donation.
  • Funds shall be donated to other Unions whose members are on strike or lockout.
  • All funds shall be accounted for and reported to the Strike Insurance Department.

Fraternally yours,
(signed)
ROBERT WHITE
President
