LETTER NO. 5 December 1, 1987
Donations to CAW/TCA Local Unions During Strikes/Lockouts
To: Local Union Presidents, Financial Secretaries, Recording Secretaries & National Staff Rerpresentatives
Greetings:
CAW-TCA Canada Local Unions have a tradition of providing financial assistance to Local Unions engaged in protracted strikes/lockouts.
The National Executive Board of CAW-TCA Canada believes this tradition promotes solidarity within the CAW-TCA Canada.
The National Executive Board of CAW-TCA Canada believes that reasonable workable procedures will enhance this tradition therefore.
The National President, upon request from a Local, will make an appeal, in writing, for donations from CAW-TCA Local Unions at the commencement of the seventh (7th) week of a strike or lockout of CAW-TCA members.
Local Unions receiving donations will use such funds in a manner for which they were intended and all donations will be reported on the Weekly Analysis Strike form.
At the conclusion of a strike/lockout all unused funds received as a result of donations shall be allocated by the Local Union in the following manner:
- Funds shall be utilized to provide assistance to those members who continue to receive strike insurance benefits following the termination of a strike or lockout.
