(Montreal) CAW -CP Rail workplace representatives from right across the country have unanimously endorsed a new collective agreement, reached late Friday night. More than 50 workplace leaders met in Montreal last night and this morning to review the contents of the deal.
At this morning's meeting both CAW National President Ken Lewenza and CAW National Secretary-Treasurer Peter Kennedy addressed the group and commended them on their efforts, particularly the bargaining committee who had been working to get a deal since mid-September.
In his comments, Lewenza also underscored the importance of union density in making positive change in the lives of working people, both union and non. The railways have a long history of unionization in Canada.
CAW Local 101 represents 2,100 mechanical services workers (shopcraft) at CP Rail.
The deal is subject to ratification which will take place in a series of cross country meetings over the next three weeks. Details of the agreement will be released upon ratification.
