Help End the Lock Out!
December 15, 2010, 10:30 PM EST
You can help end the lock out of more than 200 CAW members who work for three limousine service companies operating out of Toronto's Pearson International Airport (McIntosh, Air Cab and Aaroport).
On December 1, members of CAW 252 were effectively locked out of their jobs after the company owner Shuki Zahavy refused to release the provincial registration stickers, preventing the drivers from using their cars.
The company had already walked away from negotiations with the CAW in early November, refusing to settle on a first agreement.
Here's what the drivers are facing:
-forced to buy the car from the employer at highly inflated prices and then must transfer ownership to the employer, without any confirming paperwork;
-must buy insurance from the employer without getting a policy that sets out premiums, coverage, or limitations;
-pay significant sums of money for permit and dispatch fees.
Now here's what you can do to help:
1. If you are flying into or out of Pearson International Airport, do not use McIntosh, Air Cab or Aaroport. These drivers that you see at the airport are scabs. There are other alternatives, please use one.
2. Contact company owner Shuki Zahavy and tell him to get back to the bargaining table and settle a fair and equitable agreement with the drivers. You can contact him by phone at the office: (416) 225-6666 or by fax: (416) 225-6410
Let's help get these drivers back to work and back on the road!
