Justice Sidney Linden, the first Executive-Director of the CAW Legal Services Plan, marked the first 25 years of the plan's existence reminding delegates of the challenges and struggles overcome in the launch of this important service.
Justice Linden outlined the importance of the CAW Legal Services Plan to working people and their families over the years. He urged delegates to ensure that the plan and its many benefits are negotiated into future collective agreements.
"To those of you who do not have this legal plan in your collective agreement, take it from an old Judge, who has seen a lot of people suffer the consequences of not being able to afford a lawyer when they needed one, this legal services plan is worth pursuing," Justice Linden said.
"Even in these harsh economic times, and maybe even especially in these harsh economic times, it is worthwhile to fund for the kind of comprehensive legal services that the CAW plan provides," he said.
