Randy Smith
CAW Local 504 President

"We here in front of the Siemens corporate offices for Canada and we're here today because of the announcement of the closure of the Siemens facility in Hamilton where the workers are going to be put out of a job in July 2011. We've had conversations with the union from Germany and they're telling us that they have got more work than they can handle over there. There's no need for this closure whatsoever. The IG Metall union has been in contact with us and they also think it's just terrible that this is happening."

Bill Gibson
CAW Kitchener Area Director

"First of all we believe that work should be put back into that plant. Siemens has a wealth of work out there, they could reinvest and again provide real living wages and jobs for these workers. And if that can't happen we need to renegotiate a severance package that provides a livable and at least an attainable severance package for these workers so the can get on with their lives at the most difficult time of their lives."

Doug Brown
CAW Siemens Unit Chair

"Complete utter frustration there. They're taking our jobs away from us. There are green energy jobs coming to Ontario. They've refused to give us preferential hire. The severance offer is absolutely ridiculous."

Stan Parsons
Siemens Worker CAW Local 504

"I would really like to know where our government is on trying to protect some of the issues that we're dealing with here. Seems like here in Hamilton everything is up for closure and we really don't need that. We've had the brewery close. We've got National Steel Car ready to pack up and leave and now we've got Siemens leaving. It's total devastation for the city and the people of the area."

Randy Smith
CAW Local 504 President

"We're here to let them know that we want them back at the tables speaking to us and offering us the dignity, and respect that these members at the Hamilton facility deserve."

Cheryl Davidson
Spouse of Siemens Worker

"My husband has worked there for nearly 12 years. He loves his job he doesn't want to lose it but unfortunately at 44 years old now he's going to have to look for a new one and that's really scary for us."

Tom Macleod
Siemens Worker CAW Local 504

"We're losing our life. We're losing our lifestyle, a way of life and it's gone."

Bill Gibson
CAW Kitchener Area Director

"We need to talk abut a severance package. We don't need to talk about the pittance that the employment standards act provides for you. We need to talk about real severance and real compensation for people that have invested their entire lives in making this company as profitable as it is. What's there right now is not acceptable to anybody in this area."
