Open Letter to all Garda Employees
Over the last four years the CAW has worked closely with many of you in your fight to bring real representation, respect and dignity to your workplace.
In 2009 a service agreement was signed with the CAW in order to provide all of you with the resources that you required including: access to a service representative, research, communication, legal services, education and training. However your executive chose not to participate or use any of those services because they had ulterior motives.
Although there were many attempts made to complete the service agreement, our union could not accept some of the terms and demands of your current executive. They wanted the CAW to agree that elections would not be held so that they would remain in their positions. The CAW is a democratic union and we would never agree to such terms.
We want all Garda workers to know that the CAW will not let you down! We have heard many of your concerns over the years which is why we have continued to support you and have held open meetings.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact us at 1-877-495-6551 or organize@caw.ca
Free trade with the European Union is a bad idea for Canada
The Harper government's relentless push to sign a new Canada-EU free trade deal would undermine the rights of federal, provincial and municipal governments to manage public spending over goods and services; it would privatize public services like drinking water, prevent us from adopting strong measures to combat climate change and wipe out up to 150,000 Canadian jobs, among a long list of additional concerns. CAW President Ken Lewenza says:
So far, all signs point to a free trade deal that is lopsided, unfair and would do more harm than good to Canadians.
