On the Road to a Green Economy: Speaking Tour
June 8, 2010, 9:33 AM EST
The CAW is teaming up with the Polaris Institute and the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, for the On the Road to a Green Economy: G20 Speaking Tour set to take place on June 14-18.
The caravan tour will wind its way through Southwestern Ontario in the lead up to the People's Summit event being held in Toronto on June 19 and part of a larger string of public mobilizations in preparation for the G8/G20 meetings starting on June 25.
Three Speakers-Green Economy Thinkers (Sarah Jane Saska, CYCC Youth Speaker; Tony Clarke, Polaris Institute; and Ken Bondy, CAW) will travel to four communities and take part in a panel discussion (along with a local community leader), highlighting ways various cities and towns can encourage green economic development and at the same time create good green jobs.
Community members and activists will have the opportunity to have their voices heard at a "speaker's corner" station that will be set-up at each tour stop. These individual clips will be compiled into a short film that will be shown in Toronto at the People's Summit and at future green economy events.
The tour will make stops in Windsor (June 14), Sarnia (June 15), London (June 16), Waterloo (June 17) and Toronto (June 18/19).
CAW local unions in various communities have assisted with the planning of these events, and more information on specific times and locations will be available on the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition website: http://www.ourclimate.ca/
