Today - CAW to Hold Information Picket outside Federal Finance Minister's Speech
May 4, 2010, 10:10 AM EST
CAW members from across the Greater Toronto Area will be holding an information picket downtown today at 5 p.m. outside of the Hilton Hotel, the site of federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's speech at a symposium hosted by the Institute for Research on Public Policy.
The union will be protesting the very limited number of public consultations on pensions. Of the three public consultations, none are scheduled for Ontario, despite the fact that the province is home to more than one third of the country's total population.
The union is calling on Finance Minister Jim Flaherty to expand the public consultations so that Canadians right across the country can have their say on what pension reforms are needed.
Today- Tuesday, May 4 at 5:00 p.m.
The Hilton Hotel, 145 Richmond Street West, Toronto, Ontario
(at Richmond St. & University Ave.)
The CAW has an ongoing pension campaign, with the Canadian Labour Congress, calling for the expansion of the Canadian Pension Plan, boosting the Guaranteed Income Supplement by 15% for the country's lowest income seniors and establishing a new pension insurance plan to protect workplace pensions -especially in the case of bankruptcies.
