Aid to the Black Triangle
As hydro crews from as far away as Detroit worked through the harsh winter weather to restore power to the victims of the Ice Storm in Quebec and eastern Ontario, the CAW continues its efforts to help those affected by the black out. It has donated a total of $250,000 dollars . The community of Bedford is one of many that are being helped by the CAW.

Luc Desnoyer
CAW Quebec Director

"We are helping the whole community. Right now in this area we are putting some money with the Local 956 and their own president, we will have some food vouchers. We will go in each community, some of them are small and some are bigger. It's for everybody."

The Ice Storm encased everything in massive thick ice, immobilizing the population, crushing once proud trees and plunging millions into the dark.
While the people in Montreal have returned to normal those in the area known as the Black Triangle south of Montreal are still shivering in the dark after over two weeks without power. The experience has been devastating.

Ronney Gardner
CAW Local 956
Ice Storm Victim

"I was very sad to see.. go pick up my mother here in Bedford. She was out of power for two days and she was at a center and I went into the center and I found her laying on the floor on a sleeping bag. I went and picked her up and brought here home. That was really, really hard on me. I was very sad to see that, to see my mother in that situation."

The lights are slowly coming back on in the Black Triangle, but it will be years before the communities and the individuals recover from the trauma of the storm. There is one legacy however that does contain hope for the future.

Luc Desnoyer
CAW Quebec Director
The major point , if everybody still support, show solidarity between them, we can fight everything, ice storms, company or things like that.

CAW "Fighting Back Makes a Difference."
