The campaign to get Peggy Nash, assistant to CAW National President Buzz Hargrove elected as an NDP member of Parliament got a major boost as the election entered its final week. Toronto Mayor, David Miller publicly threw his support behind Nash.

"What the City of Toronto needs in Ottawa are MPs who fight for the city of Toronto and actually deliver results and I know Peggy is somebody who will deliver results and who believes in the same things I do about how you build a city.
"We've heard lots of good words from Ottawa but we need results and here in Parkdale High Park Peggy is the person who can deliver those results. She's got tremendous integrity and vision and I think she will be a terrific member of Parliament."

Nash and Miller walked along Bloor Street in the heart of her riding as Saturday shoppers greeted them along the way.

"We need in Ottawa some new people who will actually fight for Toronto. We've been taken for granted and I know that Peggy will not take us for granted, She'll be there for us."
"Your know what, if Peggy Nash is in Ottawa you'll have a better chance of getting good child care"
"I hope she can count on your support. She can win and I need her as my ally in Ottawa."

As Nash's campaign swings into the last week an army of supporters including CAW members canvassed door to door.

Julie White
CAW Women's Director

"So she has been a strong voice for women in the CAW for years and that is why you see women coming out in record numbers from places like Oshawa and London to help in Peggy's campaign because we knew that that voice which has always been there in the CAW and at the bargaining table. She will take that voice to the House of Commons and she will raise issues such as child care and violence against women for not just CAW members but for Canadian women and quite frankly for Canadian Families."

According to Nash's campaign organizers, they are getting positive support from the voters.

"There's tremendous momentum in our campaign. We're doing extremely well and this morning having the Mayor campaign down Bloor Street with us is just phenomenal because he is so well respected here. People really do support him and his support for my campaign is just absolutely wonderful."
