Tentative Agreement at Xstrata Nickel in Sudbury, Ontario

CAW/Mine Mill Local 598 and Xstrata Nickel have reached a tentative agreement covering 540 active and 500 laid-off members at the company's mines, mill and smelter in Sudbury, Ontario.

The agreement came early February 1 as negotiators worked past a midnight deadline on Sunday, January 31.

CAW Local 598 issued an early morning release on February 1: "The bargaining committee has fought long and hard in the past 48 hours in an effort to reach a fair and equitable collective agreement with Xstrata Nickel Sudbury Division. 

We are pleased to announce that a tentative collective agreement has been reached," said CAW Local 598 President Richard Paquin.

Meeting times to inform the membership of details will be announced within the next day.
