CAW Local 3019 members have ratified a new three-year agreement at the Myra Falls mine located on Vancouver Island, near Campbell River.
Workers voted 83 per cent in favour of the agreement that includes a two per cent increase this year, two per cent next year and 2.5 per cent in the third year. The agreement includes no concessions.
"The membership recognized the wisdom of accepting average gains, while steadfastly refusing any concessions as the best course of action in the economic climate we find ourselves in," said CAW Local 3019 President Brian Clark. "We all have a vested interest in the long term viability of this mine for ourselves, our families and our community."
The new agreement includes gains in life insurance and vision care coverage. Other improvements include a 30 per cent gain in pensions for employees who started using the plan prior to 1990. A new item also means that the length of recall rights will be doubled when a layoff occurs.
