LUMA Conference: Talking to the Communicators

The CAW's Local Union Media Association Conference brought together union editors, web masters, photographers, designers and communicators from coast-to-coast at the Port Elgin Family Education Centre.
More than 50 delegates took part November 13 to 15 to learn more about the social media of Web 2.0 as well as the issue of net neutrality and who owns the internet. They also learned about the keys to writing an attention grabbing news release and took part in workshops on WordPress (a free online website building program), using photography to motivate social change, basic news writing and creating audio for the internet through podcasting.
A new LUMA website was created through the combined efforts of all participants and a discussion was held on how to reinvigorate LUMA. The LUMA website will be officially launched before the holidays.
As part of the conference, which is held every two years, awards were given out for writing, photography, layout, web design and web writing, to name a few. Here is a list of the winners:
