Amber Church
National Director Canadian Youth Climate Coalition

"Power Shift Canada is the largest ever youth event in Canada's history. We have over one thousand young people gathered here today from every single province and territory and from a huge diversity in terms of their backgrounds. We have young workers who have been affected by the down turn in the auto industry and want to see a green economy. We have indigenous people from every province and territory who are often on the front line of climate change in the past. We have young activists, we have students. We have people who have never said anything about climate change or the environment in their lives and they really want to learn."

Majora Carter
Founder "Sustainable South Bronx"

"I'm talking about anywhere in the world where poor people live. Because that's where you'll find, where the poor people are that's where you'll find environmental justice denied. Nobody should have to bear the brunt of more environmental burdens and less environmental benefits than anyone else. You shouldn't have to move out of your neighborhood to live in a better one. Environmental justice is civil rights in the twenty first century."

John MacDonald
CAW Local 222

"The importance of this event is to send a strong signal to our MPs and the government in power today that climate change matters."

Stephen Hazel
Executive Dir. Sierra Club Canada

"Today, all around the world, in 170 countries people are coming together in rallies, events, demonstrations to demand that our leaders take decisive action to save the planet and humanity."

Tzeporah Berman
Executive Dir. Power Up Canada

"Across the country today Canadians are speaking out. Tens of thousands of Canadians in dozens of cities are calling for leadership on climate change."

Sebastien Bezeau
CAW Local 4515

"I feel that my duty as a youth and for the environment is to be here and to lobby the politicians because I feel they are failing their responsibility. They are supposed to represent all of society. They are not representing the youth view especially on the environment."

Tammy Schoep
CAW Local 222

"We're going to work on mobilizing more young people. A couple of our high school students are making a documentary that they get to bring back to our school. The other high school students will be doing presentations in their school as well we will be doing presentations on what happened at Power Shift."

Tria Donaldson
National Co-ordinator Power Shift Canada

"Right now we are at a really crucial time for climate action in Canada. So with the lead up to the Copenhagen negotiations at COP15 . It really is a do or die situation to get a climate treaty signed and Canada is really lagging behind. And the only thing that is going to change that is a massive change in public opinion."

Stephen Hazel
Executive Dir. Sierra Club Canada

"Stephen Harper and Jim Prentice need to wake up to the fact Canadians are demanding that Canada get serious about reducing green house gas emissions across the board."

John Stone
Noble Prize winning scientist

"We are running out of time. Climate change is closer than we thought. Delay is no longer an option."

Amber Church
National Director Canadian Youth Climate Coalition

"We will be on Parliament Hill meeting with all the members of Parliament, almost all the members of Parliament and the Senators as well and taking forward to them what youth wants and asking them that that goes into their political platforms, that we actually see them do it. That they take action in Copenhagen, that we see leadership from them and if they can't do it then we will elect leaders who can."
