Aboriginal/Workers of Colour Leadership Training Program (2 Weeks)
This is a two-week program designed for CAW members who are Aboriginal and/or workers of colour. It's an incredible opportunity for local unions to build the strengths and skills of members whose voices and leadership are desperately needed if we want to respond to today's challenges. For participants, this program is designed to give you the tools you need to make a difference in your union. We discuss and strategize around removing barriers to participation of and decision-making by Aboriginal and workers of colour. We focus on the challenges of doing anti-racism work in the union and in society more broadly.
This program is intended to build the skills, knowledge and confidence of CAW Aboriginal and workers of colour members to increase their activism and take up positions of leadership within the union.
This two-week course has the following objectives:
- To build activism and build the union;
- To begin a process that will eventually remove those obstacles that deny workers of colour leadership and decision-making positions at the local, regional and national levels of the union;
- To build a tradition of CAW members of colour learning how and being prepared to challenge racism it exists in the workplace, the union movement, or society at large.
