CAW Member Recognized for Outstanding Pride Work

CAW Local 636 member and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgendered rights activist Stephanie Johnstone was recognized for her work and ongoing contribution to the LGBT community at the fifth annual Pride Toronto Gala & Awards ceremony on June 24.
Johnstone, the Vice-President of the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO) and gold medalist in bowling at the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago, has supported LGBT community athletics and has been an advocate for the rights of LGBT members in the union.
"It's an absolute honour to have received this award," said Johnstone after receiving the Pride Toronto Sports Award at the Gala. "My pride always shines a wee bit brighter knowing I have the support and friendship of so many CAW members regarding my involvement with LGBT issues in and outside the union."
Johnstone is a trustee on the Local 636 executive board and a former member of several local union standing committees, including the Union in Politics Committee, Women's Committee, Human Rights and the Education Committee. Johnstone is also a founding member of the London and Area LGBT Working With Pride Caucus as well as the Canadian Labour Congress' LGBT Working Group.
