The June 2009 CAW-TCA Skilled Trades Council met in Timmins, Ontario, where delegates unanimously backed a motion to support the candidates put forward by the CAW Administration Caucus for upcoming election at the CAW Constitutional Convention in Quebec City in August.
During the Timmins council meeting, the Skilled Trades Council executive attended a local labour council rally in support of good jobs for the community. Guest speakers included representatives from the DRV2WRK Caravan who are travelling to Ontario cities and towns in support of good jobs for all Ontario communities.
During a council lunch break delegates met at a local supermarket and purchased more than $1,000 worth of food for the Timmins Food Bank. Also, Dave Cassidy, the Council president and NEB member presented a $3,000 cheque to the Timmins Homework Club For Kids Director, Alison Cosgrove. Alison spoke to delegates about this worthwhile charity that provides children from Grades 1 to 8 with school work help and also provides one-on-one assistance for those requiring special needs. The charity provides this support to ensure young students build self esteem and benefit over the long term.
