Fa Lin
Progressive Moulding Products Workers Action Centre

"Stephen Harper, the workers are paying into the EI system and the workers need it back now."

Abdul Samad
United Steel Workers Area Council

"EI money is our money. EI money is not your money Mr. Prime Minister. Where is our $57 billion?"

Lorraine
Toronto Workers Action Centre

"Our EI should be working for us. It should support us when we lose our jobs not kick us when we are down."

Kelly Hayes
Canadian Labour Congress Ontario Regional Director

"This is our fifth rally in Ontario. These are happening all across the country because we are angry. Today is the day that you can help us turn that anger into action . We're here to talk about unemployment insurance. It is time to fix it. We're here to talk about protecting our pensions and we're here to talk about putting people before bank profits."

Jenny Ahn
CAW Dir. Membership Mobilization and Political Action

"We're in this new technology age here and we want to jam up the system we want to send them thousands upon thousands of messages so that they know that we are serious and that there are thousands and thousands of us here to send that message."

Armine Yalnizyan
Canadian Centre For Policy Alternatives

"The police are telling us to move along. And Harper is going to be telling us to move along too. So let's move along. Let's chant and march and scream our way up to the gates of the House of Commons and make sure our government works for us not just for the banks."

Mohan Krishnamoorthy
UNITE Here

"Now is not the time to be paralyzed by fear. That's what they want Now is the time for us to keep what we have won Now is the time to reclaim what is rightfully ours."

Marie Clarke Walker
Executive Vice Pres. CLC

It is time for the government to stop giving in to the corporate elite. It's time for the government to listen to those of us who do the work. All of you here. Workers, community members, community organizations. It's time for them to listen to us. It is time for us to stop paying for their mistakes It is time for us to stop taking the heat around a crisis that we didn't create."

Lorraine
Toronto Workers Action Centre

"I have now had to give up my apartment and I am trying to find a room I can afford to live in. I am so fed up with this vicious cycle or low pay from temp agencies. Working here and there with no benefits. I am now just plain discouraged and fed up."

Fa Lin
Progressive Moulding Products Workers Action Centre

"Progressive Moulded Product Limited was a non unionized auto parts manufacturer. Last Canada day 2,400 workers were thrown on the street when the company suddenly shut down and walked away with over $30 million in severance and termination pay. Now most of the PMP workers are running out of their EI. Some are using their credit cards to pay for the mortgage. Some borrow from Money mart at 20 per cent interest just for food."

Jack Layton MP
Federal NDP Leader

"Why is it that our government will not allow working people to get their own money back from the Employment Insurance program? I'll tell you why. It is because the government stole that money and they gave it to the banks in corporate tax cuts. We're going to hold Stephen Harper's feet to the fire to the bitter end until he listens to working people."

John Cartwright
Pres. Toronto & York Region Labour Council

"We've had a great demonstration today but the job is not over. By the end of this week the politicians in Ottawa are gong to decide whether they are going to fix EI or are they going to go on vacation for four months. What should they do? Fix EI."
