Toni Rossi
Board Chair Habitat For Humanity Toronto

"We are doing the first Toronto Habitat For Humanity Women Build. We're building 16 homes for families in need. And it is the largest women build in Canada. So we are very proud of it. We have over 2,000 volunteers that have come out through this blitz and almost 150 crew leaders of which CAW of course CAW is a great supporter and sponsor and we've got the CAW gals out today. Our big motto at Habitat is safety first, quality and then fun. We always have fun when people are safe and we build good quality homes."

Peggy Nash
Assistant To CAW President

"It is a great day today. We've got 20 CAW women including a number of skilled trades' women out. It is a beautiful day, blue skies and we are here building homes in Scarborough for Habitat for Humanity. The volunteers we have here, some of them have come long distances to be here today. We've raised over $20,000, a phenomenal amount of money for Habitat."

Terry Weymouth
CAW National Skilled Trades Education Co-ordinator

"It was easy to get sisters to come down here. I actually had more than enough volunteers but we could only take twenty."

Christine Connor
CAW NEB Member

"Each person, when you volunteered, you had forms and you had to raise $500 each so you could take part in the build."

Margaret Manwaring

"This is fantastic. I'm an electrician who works in the auto industry, pretty much with all men and to come here and enjoy this festive of women building things is just, I love it."

Nadine Wildgen
CAW Local 707

""Never have I built a house before. I've held a hammer before. There is a few things that we are doing. We are putting in joists and things. They are watching us carefully to make sure that we don't mess up at all."

Michelle Barrett
CAW National Staff

"It's out of the norm for me. I usually sit at a desk all day so this is wonderful to be out and helping people and being with my fellow workers."

Christine Barlow
CAW Local 222

"I'm a laid off skilled trades from General Motors Oshawa. I have no job right now so I'm here volunteering my time."

Christine Connor

"The CAW is everywhere. We help organized people, unorganized people. We're the labour movement that helps with communities as well."

Gayle Fairchild

"The experience of working with the CAW women is amazing."

Susan Kovosi

"We're building homes for people that normally wouldn't be able to traditionally afford them. They all have jobs. They all work hard. They are the working poor so we are here to follow the CAW and build some houses for people that well deserve them."

Peggy Nash
Assistant To CAW President

"Here, we are making a concrete difference and that is what the union is all about."
