Heads of CAW, CEP and USW Join Forces to Endorse Coalition Government
December 4, 2008, 6:00 AM EST
The heads of three of the country's largest industrial unions -CEP President Dave Coles, United Steelworkers Canadian National Director Ken Neumann and CAW President Ken Lewenza -will be urging Governor General Michaëlle Jean at a joint press conference today to allow the coalition government to lead Canada and not dissolve Parliament.
The three are calling for immediate action on the economy and say that should Parliament be prorogued, it would further derail the economy at a time when drastic support is needed. According to the three, dissolving the Parliament would come at the expense of already hard-hit communities, workers and families across the country.
The press conference will be the first time the three heads of unions present a united front since the CAW left the Ontario Federation of Labour 10 years ago.
Today -Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 11 a.m.
Sheraton Centre -123 Queen Street West, Conference Room D & E

The core industries represented by the three unions -steel production, vehicle and parts manufacturing, forestry and pulp and paper -have all been devastated by job loss over the last five years, with this loss accelerating under the Stephen Harper Conservative government.
All three unions, in addition to numerous other member unions of the Canadian Labour Congress, will be participating in a series of nation-wide rallies and demonstrations in support of a coalition government.
