CAW Local 599 members have ratified a three-year agreement with Xstrata Copper Canada at their Kidd Metallurgical Site in Timmins, Ontario.
Members voted 77% in favour of accepting the contract following the unanimous recommendation of their bargaining committee.
Significant gains were made in wages, benefits and contract language. A $2,000 signing
bonus was also bargained for the striking workers who have been on the picket line since October 1st.
After rolling in the 75 cent per hour cost of living adjustment into the base rate of pay, members will receive an additional wage increase of 3.25 per cent in the first year, 3 per cent in the second year and 2 per cent, plus another cost of living adjustment in year three.
"The bargaining committee wishes to thank its members for the solidarity they have displayed during our five-week struggle with Xstrata," said the union local's Chairperson Ben Lefebvre.
"This settlement is good news not only for our members, but also for the entire community as work resumes at Kidd Copper," said CAW Local 599 President Jeff Martin, who also thanked all CAW Locals for their support and solidarity and especially Local 598 members in Sudbury.
