Laid-off Workers to Give Finance Minister Jim Flaherty the Boot
October 6, 2008, 8:00 AM EST
This morning hundreds of CAW members will gather at Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's campaign office to present thousands of pairs of old work boots, gathered from laid off workers from across the province.
Each boot bears a tag signed by the laid off worker.
Give Flaherty the Boot:
Today -Monday, October 6 at 11 a.m.
Jim Flaherty's Campaign Office
1912 Dundas Street East, Unit 122
Whitby, ON L1N 2L6
"If there was a report card on the economy, both Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Jim Flaherty would get an F for their performance," said CAW President Ken Lewenza.
"It is critical to the well-being of our country that we do everything in our power to defeat the Conservatives. This means voting out Jim Flaherty, a politician who has completely ignored the suffering in his own community." Since the Harper Conservatives took office in January 2006, the Oshawa area has lost more than 6,100 manufacturing jobs.
The 'Give Flaherty the Boot' campaign began in Windsor, Ontario, with boot collections also in Chatham, Ingersoll, London, Kitchener, Brampton, Toronto and Oshawa.
The CAW has adopted an ABC (Anyone But Conservative) voting approach in the Whitby-Oshawa riding, the seat currently held by Flaherty.
