CAW Members at IMP Aerospace Refuse Unsafe Work

CAW Local 2215 members at IMP Aerospace in Halifax, Nova Scotia are exercising their legal right to refuse unsafe work.
"These members are refusing to work at any building operated by IMP," said Scott Beaver, Local 2215 president and co-chair of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee. The CAW represents about 500 aviation mechanics at IMP. Approximately 200 of that 500 are exercising their individual right to refuse dangerous work.
Beaver said "the company is either unwilling or unable to protect our members' health and safety."
"We had great support from the Provincial Department of Labour Inspectors but an attempt to prosecute IMP failed when the Justice Department ruled that IMP no longer fell under provincial jurisdiction," Beaver said. "We have had little to no support from the Federal Inspectorate since that time and after several failed attempts to resolve the issues it has come to this."
