After 28 days of strike action, CAW Local 1090 has finalized a closure agreement for members working at Fleming Door Products in Ajax, Ontario. The agreement includes enhanced severance language and protects the rights of members for future employment at the Ajax facility.

"This is definitely the best outcome for our members in the worst of circumstances," said CAW Local 1090 President Steve Batchelor.

On August 8, the company announced the closure of the 45-year old manufacturing facility, which manufactured commercial steel doors and frames for hospitals, schools, shopping malls and other building structures.

The company had initially told the union that it had no intention to pay severance to workers on strike after the closure announcement had been made.

"The company was determined to completely disregard the rights of these workers to severance entitlements under law but our members stood together and prevailed in the end," said Batchelor.

CAW Local 1090 represents 135 members at the Fleming Door facility.
