Family Education Summer Residence Program
Family Education Summer Residence Program - Two Weeks
For over 40 years, the CAW has offered a two-week residence family education program to members and their families. Starting in 2010, there will be a one-week offering of this amazing program. If selected by the local/national union to attend, the member agrees to give up his/her vacation time and the national union covers all costs of the program including travel and accommodation.
The program takes place in the months of July and August at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario. A call letter is sent to all CAW locals in early December of the previous year, with a registration deadline of early March the year in which the program takes place. Selection is complete by early May.
Pre-teens participate in recreational programs run by fully-trained child care workers and counsellors.
Teenagers participate in their own specially-designed program which recognizes their unique interests but also incorporates the issues of social unionism in their curriculum.
Adults, both members and their spouse/partner, combine learning and recreational activities and come away from the program with a better understanding of how to integrate trade unionism and social activism in the life of the family and community.
Every CAW member and all immediate family members up to 18 years of age, are eligible to attend the family program.
