Health & Safety
This is a great place for new worker health and safety committee members to start. It's also a good refresher for those with years of experience. The body mapping exercise helps participants identify the systems of work related injury and the hazards in their workplaces. The class discusses the CAW's statement of principles on heath and safety, the principles of hazard control, and the worker's rights to know, participate and refuse unsafe work. Participants learn how to use health and safety legislation, the duties of employers, the rights of committees, regulations, guidelines, exposure limits and threshold limit values (TLVs), the CAW Accident/Incident Form, the right to refuse in the province/territory of jurisdiction, CAW model contract language, workplace mapping, job safety analysis, and workplace inspections. The strengths and weaknesses of each strategy are discussed from a worker's perspective.
