Grievance Handling - Advanced


This is a completely revised and updated course for Workplace Leadership which includes a quick review of basic grievance handling, understanding the collective agreement as a living document, a discussion of limits on management's authority, workplace action, the famous "obey now grieve later" rule and exceptions, mandatory versus voluntary overtime, time limits, video tape evidence, new and old decisions on the duty of fair representation, a new interpretation of the duty to accommodate with a focus on disability, mitigating circumstances in suspensions and firings, and thinking globally and acting locally what social unionism can mean in practice and how it can help build our workplace power.

It is highly recommended that any member taking this course have some experience as a grievance handler, or have taken the basic "Grievance Handling" course.
