Study to be Unveiled on Older Immigrant Workers in Precarious Work

Findings from a Ryerson University study charting the job market experience of older immigrant workers after being laid off by an auto-parts plant in the Greater Toronto Area will be released on Tuesday, June 25, 10:30 a.m. at the Ted Rogers School of Management.

The study, funded by the Centre for Labour Management Relations, provides new insights into Canada's precarious job market and the significant challenges older immigrant workers  face with respect to income security, work quality, well-being and issues around settlement.

  • Aparna Sundar, co-author and professor, Department of Politics and Public Administration, Ryerson University
  • Grace-Edward Galabuzi, co-author and professor, Department of Politics and Public Administration, Ryerson University
  • Fa Lim, study participant and former worker at Progressive Moulded Products, an automotive-parts manufacturer that filed for bankruptcy and closed in June 2008.
  • Ken Lewenza, National President, Canadian Auto Workers
  • Maurice Mazerolle, co-director, Centre for Labour Management Relations at Ted Rogers School of Management
  • Buzz Hargrove, co-director, Centre for Labour Management Relations at Ted Rogers School of Management
