CAW Supports Occupy Efforts in Canada
October 14, 2011, 1:50 PM EST
The CAW is supporting participation in the grassroots mobilizing efforts of the Occupy Canada movement, set to begin on October 15 in cities across the country. Occupy Canada builds on the growing momentum spurred by similar events that have unfolded in New York City and throughout the United States.
"I'm encouraged to see citizens rightfully stand up and take action against what are gross injustices in our economic and social structures," said CAW National President Ken Lewenza. "It's time for people to take ownership of their streets, their economy and fight back against corporations and governments championing right-wing, neo-liberal policies that support a select few, at the expense of the majority."
CAW members are encouraged to participate in Occupy events across Canada on Saturday October 15, including Toronto (meeting at the corner of King and York Street at 10:00 a.m.) as well as in Vancouver (meeting at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 12:00 p.m.).
