CAW Members at Sandvik Material Technologies on Strike

CAW members at Sandvik Materials Technology Canada in Arnprior, Ontario are now on strike as of July 13 at 12:01 a.m. over company demands for concessions to the pension plan.
Negotiations between CAW Local 2228 and Sandvik have been ongoing since June 15, with the collective agreement having expired on July 1.
CAW Sandvik unit chair Derek Mosley described the negotiations as unnecessarily drawn out and said that demanded changes to pension eligibility must be removed from the table if an agreement is to be reached. "We are not prepared to accept pension cuts which would have a detrimental impact on the retirement of approximately two-thirds of the existing workforce," said Mosley.
The 157 employees make steel tubing for the nuclear, aerospace, automotive, and oil and gas sectors. Sandvik is a Swedish-based multinational company.
