CAW Local 4304 members who work at Grand River Transit in Ontario have overwhelmingly voted in favour of a new three-year agreement with wage, health and safety as well as scheduling language improvements.
Local 4304 represents 550 conventional and specialized bus operators along with dispatchers, mechanics and service personnel. The transit system services Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, Ontario. The workers voted 98 per cent in favour of the new contract.
The new agreement contains a two per cent general wage increase in each of the three years, as well as a signing bonus. It also includes improved health and safety and scheduling language with tool allowance improvements for the skilled trades.
CAW Local 4304 President Rick Lonergan said the membership's support was critical throughout bargaining. "The membership were determined to make gains and through their solidarity helped the committee bargain a strong agreement," Lonergan said.
CAW Kitchener Area Director Bill Gibson said "this agreement is a testament to the bargaining committees' resolve to return to the membership a strong and well balanced agreement."
